Vice-President's Message

Dear members, friends and supporters

Another year has gone by since DSS Management Committee 2006/2008 took over! How time flies!

As we prepare to convene our Annual General Meeting on 28 April 2007, we look back on a year that has seen an active promotion of diabetes awareness among DSS members and the community at large. With the help of health care professionals, medical companies, the Ministry of Health and of course, our volunteers, DSS has successfully organised regular health screening campaigns.

Our official magazine, "Diabetes Singapore", has been playing an equally important role in publicising our objectives. It also carries useful essays on chronic disease written by specialist doctors, health care professional and our very own experienced DSS staff. We are grateful to the writers and advertisers for their support and contributions.

DSS' motto has always been "early diagnosis, earl treatment" for a complications-free life. Our headquarter in Ang Mo Kio Hospital plus our education centre - South West Diabetes Education & Care Centre an Central Singapore Diabetes Education & Care Centre – continue to play a vital role in serving the members and the heartland. It is our hope that we will be able to provide patients with highly subsidised care and even free health services where possible.

We look forward to another exciting phase in the life of DSS. Soon, we will move our headquarters from Ang Mo Hospital to Eunos where we will serve another area of Singapore with verve and spirit. Watch this space to find out more!

If you know of diabetes patients and caregivers who are not yet members, please encourage them to join the Diabetic Society of Singapore. Do join us for our many special events and take advantage of our membership privileges. The benefits are legion, including discounts on products and free health screening and updated information on diabetes talks, seminars, treatments and how to avoid complications.

We look forward to having you join us on this journey of friendship and support.

Hj P.M. Mohammad Moideen
