DSS 35th Anniversary Dinner A STAR-STUDDED AFFAIR
It all started with a deep passion to help people with diabetes - which led to the birth of the Diabetic Society of Singapore in 1971. Since then, the Society has been constantly budding and forging ahead to ensure that seeds of education are sown and nurtured to bear fruit, that high quality diabetes care is made available to everyone who needs it. The aim is to enable them to be better equipped to attain quality of life. On 11 January 2007, the Society celebrated its 35th Anniversary Dinner at Orchard Hotel Singapore with sweet reminiscence and gaiety. Hosted by the affable former radio deejay, Mr Larry Lai, the evening kicked off with a multi-media presentation of the Society's numerous milestones since its induction more than three decades ago. DSS Founder Dr Frederick Tan, together with Guest of Honour, Mr Sin Boon Ann, MP for Tampines GRC, and the DSS Management Council, gathered around the cake to lead 250 guests in singing the birthday song. Paying tribute to the Society's achievements, Mr Sin said, "I was able to find out more about the wonderful things that the society has done in the last 35 years for the benefit of diabetic patients in Singapore. I must say I am both impressed and encouraged by the work of the Society." Similarly, dinner guests were stirred to contribute through angpows to the Society. A total of $1,526 was raised. Highlights of the evening included the I0-year and 20-year award presentations to the DSS members present at the dinner, a special belly fusion show by Ming of Des D Mel Promotions, live rock 'n' roll band, table and lucky draws with the top prize of a $500 worth diamond pendant by Soo Kee Jewellery, kindly donated by the National Council of Social Service. A charity auction was also held to benefit DSS. Proudly sponsored by Crystal Time (S) Pte Ltd, an exquisite Raymond Weil timepiece was auctioned off to Dr Yeo Kim Teck, bringing this "star-studded" evening to a dazzling close.
