EMPOWERMENT FOR GPS PROGRAMME

-TREAT TO TARGET

The spirit of collaboration between DSS and general practitioners (GPs) continued in the second installment of the Society's Empowerment for GPs programme (EPGP).

Launched on 25 June at the Singapore Medical Alumni, this installment focused on the theme `Treat to Target for GPs'. Following the aims of EPGP's first launch on 17 April last year, this nine-month programme encompasses a lecture series where participating GPs are equipped with the specialised knowledge to help them treat their patients who have diabetes. Patients referred by these GPs can in turn enjoy free HbA1c and Microalbuminuria tests at DSS' islandwide centres.

DSS' head diabetes nurse educator Aslena Hussain has reported positive response to the programme's first installment.

"Patients of our participating GPs have registered tremendous improvement in blood sugar control. They are also more eager to faithfully go back to their doctors for consultations," she said.

The EPGP programme is sponsored by the Sanofi-Aventis Group as well as Johnson & Johnson Lifescan through an educational grant.
